Jodi is going to College this September
Our daughter Jodi graduated this year and will be attending Okanagan College to study to be a Child Care Worker. She is very excited about it and to be able to learn to do something she loves to do and is very good at. Jodi volunteers at the YMCA/YWCA in Kelowna and cares for children in the day care. The children and staff love to have her there and she learns so much with the hands on experience. As well, Jodi volunteers at Arion Therapeutic Farm, in Kelowna, where she cares for the animals and helps challenged children be with the animals and people who care for them. Very good experience for her. Jodi believes anything is possible. You may a look at some photos at the Photo Site.
Ricot, who we sponsor in Haiti is doing well and going to school
Haiti is a country where for many years and probably for many more is one of the poorest places to grow up and live. We have sponsored Ricot for three years now and he thanks us for sponsoring him in a way every time he writes us that I can't help but feel that he feels someday it too will end. Ricot goes to school, does chores to help out his friend, family, village, and school. He loves to play soccer and draw pictures. I have sent him down Canucks stickers and pictures and told him about hockey. Ricot probably finds it hard to believe people would skate on ice and smack around a rubber puck with a stick but, it does give him something to think about and talk about in school. Ricot draws us pictures and tells us what is happening in school and his village. We send him down stickers, pictures, small crafts and gifts. If you are interested in reading and watching what is really happening in Haiti go to Haiti Action website. There is not much joy at this site so be prepared. If you want to help out someone in the world then you can go to World Vision Canada or a foundation of your choice. I am not trying to make you feel like you should do this. Only giving you the option. You may have a look a Ricot`s pictures and story on his Page at Littleboo.ca
- Yes it took me thirty years but I finally published my collected photos, stories, and information to the web.
- I did not come up with all the photos myself. Some were given to me. Thank you very much.
- It was very important for me to design and publish this website in memory of my father, Kenneth Scott Bateman.
Two other two people lost their lives during the Storm of 78'. Frank Watson, conductor, and Cheryl Halwas, a nine year old girl who died in the school yard when a tree fell on her in the strong wind. I would like to make contact with the Watson and Halwas families. However, I am a bit nervous about doing so. I will someday when the time is right. I would appreciated any stories or photos about my father and the Storm of 78'. Email me: hoghead@trainwreckof78.ca
Don't forget Littleboo.ca and Trainwreckof78.ca will give you a free email address
